I had to do several things to make sure that the split-screen would work well, one being changing the height of what's visible and then rendering out the clip. Once I have the rendered clip I then masked the extra black part on the left on the clip from previously moving it to the top so it wouldn't be visible when placing the night shots underneath. I will make a video tutorial on how to do it with a commentary over it.
The easiest way to do this to every shot, was to minimise the height of every shot and then put them all together and render them into one whole clip. I did the same to the night shots and then placed the day clips on the top layer and the night shots on the bottom layer. I also then applied the mask to the entire clip to save me having to go through every clip.
